Gaps Crown Chardonnay 2014A Head Turner

Most everyone knows that Jim Pratt is a grower we truly admire, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that when the opportunity for a little Chardonnay from Vine Hill presented itself, it was a run, don’t walk situation. On the edge of Green Valley near Forestville in the Laguna Hills region, legendary vintner neighbors all around this vineyard are just one clue that something very special is happening here.

Tasting Notes

Well drained sandy Goldridge soil with wonderful natural acidity and low pH set the stage for Chardonnay with aromas of white peach and lemon curd, citrus blossoms and gardenias and for the romantic, white rose petal. Bright, lively acid with oak that hides a bit, subtle but insistent. Flavors of white peach and not so puckery grapefruit are framed in a medium-bodied wine that is flat out refreshing. The ABC crowd meets its match here, she’s a head turner.
