Pratt Vineyard,
Vine Hill Road

Russian River Valley

Jim Pratt planted this small vineyard in 2009, on the edge of Green Valley near Forestville in the emerging Laguna Hills region.  On the corner of Vine Hill Road and Vine Hill School Road, it falls onto the left bank of the Laguna de Santa Rosa, and is influenced by the moderating temperatures of this vital watershed.  Nearby are notable vineyards of Kistler, Dehlinger, Walker and the Duttons.  The white sandy soil is well drained and distinctive, perfect for Chardonnay of the highest quality.

Tufa soil is prevalent in the vineyard, resembling a whitish moon dust formed over eons as calcium rich bodies of water dissolve and retreat slowly, leaving a porous, well drained foundation where grapes thrive.

Chardonnay Clones

Mount Eden | Robert Young | Dijon 96
This trio of clones are among the most distinctive Chardonnay clones a winegrower has to work with. The Mount Eden originated in Burgundy, but was brought to Santa Cruz by Paul Masson in the 19th century, evolving in the Martin Ray vineyard. Dijon 96, also from Burgundy in the Côte d’ Or, offers aromatic fruit with a richness and nicely balanced acidity. The Robert Young Clone 17 is known for its mineral, high toned notes, enhancing the tropical, grapefruit expressions of companion clones.
This Chardonnay has quickly become one of our most highly acclaimed wines in only its second vintage.
